If you have dry lips and dead skins you may want to scrub first. Its simple, just use some brown sugar, honey and olive oil (1 teaspoon each) and gently massage your lips for a few minutes. Rinse well. Then apply your lip balm, it will be much more effective.

This recipe below contains castor oil that will make your lips shinny!  The honey helps healing, Shea and mango butter which are great emollients will make your lips smooth like silk.  Tucuma butter is from Brazil. It is high in vitamin A and rich in lauric, myristic and oleic acids.  I really like this lip balm as it has long moisturizing properties. Its great for chapped lips!

Natural Emulsifier – 30 %

3 teaspoons Beeswax

Oil phase – 70 %

1 teaspoon organic castor oil

1.5 teaspoon of organic tucuma (or kokrum) butter (or replace by shea butter)

1 teaspoon of organic refined coconut oil (or not refined to have the coconut scent)

1 teaspoons of refined raw organic Shea butter

1 teaspoon of refined organic Mango butter

1 teaspoon of organic hemp oil

0.5 teaspoon of organic liquid honey

Essential oils (optional):

Essential Oils of 1 big drop Benzoin,

10 drops organic essential of Fennel

5 drops organic essential of Patchouli

5 drops organic essential of Lavender

Makes: 8 lip balm tubes

Directions:

Melt beeswax, oils, and honey in a double boiler of low heat. Once melted take it off the heat and mix well until the honey is blended.

Add essential oils and pour the mixture into lip balm container right away before it start to solidify.

If it has already starting to harden, don’t panic! Put it back into the double boiler for a few seconds until it melts again and poor the rest in the lip balm tubes. Wait a few hours so that the lip balm harden. Voila!

This seems like a great idea. My only concern is I dont know anything about castor oil. It doesn’t sound like something that would be safe for me. Also, fennel is one of my least favorite things. Does it have a fennel taste? I wonder if you could add a mint oil instead to give it a minty taste. Love the idea!

HI kali, thanks for your comment. castor oil is completely safe and natural, it is made from the castor bean a vegetable and NOT from the animal! Buy it organic if you can. this lip balm has a fennel scent so yes you can add peppermint essential oil, 5 drops max. It will have a refreshing/ cooling effect. Happy lip balm making!

I love the recipes you post, but can you also post some sources for the products you name? I am especially interested in this one because I am experimenting with making my own lipstick. Currently, I just add my color to already purchased lip balms, but to be able to make my own would be great. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again for all the great recipes!
