Cinnamon and sweet orange are very comforting making this cinnamon lip balm recipe perfect for the winter and Christmas season! Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean a natural emollient that penetrates the skin and helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin which can soften and hydrate the skin. Cinnamon essential oil is a natural lip plumber, it will make your lips more full.

Instructions

  • Melt beeswax, oils, and honey in a double boiler of very low heat.
  • Once melted take it off the heat and start whipping with an electric mixer until the liquid becomes frosty and the honey well blended. (at first you will see the honey at the bottom of the oils, that means it is not well mixed).
  • Add essential oils and pour the mixture into lip balm container before it starts to solidify.
  • If it has already starting to solidify, don’t panic!
  • Put it back into the double boiler for a few seconds until it melts again and poor the rest in the containers.

Words of wisdom: Cinnamon leaf essential oil must be use with caution. Please do not increase the percentage of drops in your lip balm or it might irritate your lips. Cinnamon essential oil can be a mucous membrane irritant and strong skin sensitizer. Only the oil from the leaf should be used, never use the bark essential oil. This is just a word of caution, I never had any problems with this lip balm which is one of my favorite but essential oils are very potent and we should always take care of respecting the dilution in the recipes!

Yield: about 1.5 oz

Hi Eve!! I love your recipes!
I want to try this lip balm recipe, just one question, could I add a few drops of vitamin E instead of using the honey? To make it last a bit longer
    Thanks 🙂

Hi Eve, is there a substitute for sweet almond oil in the event of having allergies to nuts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nicki

Hi nicki, yes you could use sunflower or safflower oil, always do a patch test to ensure you are not allergic to those as well.

Hi, could i use honey propolis instead of raw honey? i was thinking this would improve shelf life and still offer some benefits

    Thanks!

    • April 16, 2019 / 3:07 pm

Honey propolis is rather expensive I think, you could use it but I don’t think its needed in this recipe.

I don’t have calendula oil n cinnamon leaf oil
what I can add instead of it ?

    • February 7, 2018 / 6:05 pm

Hi vyshnavi, you can use sunflower oil or safflower oil instead of the calendula oil.
For the cinnamon leaf essential oil, there is no replacement but you could skip it.

Can we add cinnamon powder in it instead of oil.

    • December 9, 2017 / 4:41 pm

yes, you can but that changes the recipe. Cinnamon mildly irritates the skin on your lips so just be cautious on the amount you use…it will sting and you have to be careful not to use too much.

    Hi Eve,

I would like to know what is the shelf life of this beautiful lip balm. Also, how do I determine the shelf life of DIY cosmetics? Thank you very much for your reply.

    • November 18, 2017 / 8:49 pm

Hi Anna, that all depends on the shelf life of the oils you are using. This one can be used within 3 to 6 months since it has honey.

Does honey shorten or lengthen the shelf life?
