After lots of research and experiments, I have come up with my own DIY Face Moisturizer with Royal Jelly, a similar version of the “famous” Egyptian magic cream with jojoba oil, orange blossom hydrosol, bee propolis, royal jelly and beeswax. It works wonders for fine lines, wrinkles and as a homemade eye cream treatment.
What is the Egyptian magic cream?
If you have not heard of this popular cream, the Egyptian magic skin cream is a healing balm that may, in fact, be the exact formula for a legendary skin cream found in ancient Egyptian tombs. It claims that one jar can be used as a face cream, an eye cream, a hair masque, burn and wound relief, cracked/dry skin relief, lip balm, baby cream, shaving balm, scars and stretch mark healing, cellulite banisher… Celebrities like Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz swear by it!
The only downside is the greasy texture it leaves behind, so I decided to create my own version of the cream, more light – here comes my DIY face moisturizer with royal jelly.
I have whipped up my own magic formula by switching up olive oil with jojoba oil and eliminating honey since it leaves behind an oily and tacky film on the skin. I have been using this cream for quite a few weeks and I must say that I’ve noticed a huge difference on my skin and fine lines. When you first apply it, it can feel slightly tacky because of the propolis but after a few minutes your skin absorbs it completely and the results on my skin is very smooth. It has literally shrunk my pores and enhanced the texture of my skin, leaving behind an ethereal glow and subtle shine. This stuff is like magic!
Main Ingredients DIYFace Moisturizer with Royal Jelly

Royal Jelly Powder Dried & Frozen
Royal jelly, a secretion from the glands of worker bees, is fed to the bee larvae, irrespective of their destiny to become workers (sterile females), drones (males) or queens (fertile females). This potent substance that contains proteins, essential fats, carbs and water is fed to the queen larvae throughout their development years. It offers numerous skin benefits that include:

Royal Jelly is a powerful skin ingredient that can help you achieve flawless skin. It helps in smoothening out your wrinkles and adds a youthful touch to the skin, making it glow from within. You can get dried freeze royal jelly powder here
Bee Propolis Extract
More commonly referred to as bee glue, bee propolis that the honeybees produce by mixing beeswax and saliva with exudate gathered from sap flows, tree buds and other sources (botanical). While bees primarily harvest nectar and pollen, they also collect tree resin and water for making Propolis to glue the small gaps present in a hive.
Bee Propolis extract benefits:
- Reduce inflammation and redness
- Reduce pigmentation
- Boost collagen production
- Offer antioxidant protection against sunlight, radiation, and pollution
You can buy bee propolis here.
Orange Blossom Hydrosol
Orange blossom water is a naturally fragrant, clear by-product made from the distillation of fresh-bitter orange blossoms. Traditionally used in France and several other countries for its scent and its astounding skin benefits. This potent oil is used for:
- Skin cleansing
- Skin exfoliation
- Treating eczema
- Treating acne

Organic Jojoba Oil
Native to Southern Arizona, California and North-Western Mexico, Jojoba is a shrub from which Jojoba oil is extracted. Traditionally used to treat wounds and sores, today Jojoba oil is widely used to improve skin texture. Its wide-ranging skin benefits include:
- Help keep skin moisturized
- Fights oxidative stress and other toxins (contains Vitamin E)
- Creates a soothing seal on the skin’s surface

It is one of the key ingredients of the DIY face moisturizer with royal jelly, I love using it on my face because it absorbs well and is none greasy. You can buy it here.
Organic White Beeswax
It is a natural substance produced by honeybees of the genus Apis, which is discarded into or on the hive. This potent ingredient is used to form cells for the storage and protection of honey within the hive. Today, organic white beeswax is widely used as a protecting agent in creams and cosmetics. Its major benefits include:
- It is a humectant (keeps skin hydrated)
- Helps protect the skin from environmental damage
- It soothes itching and other inflammatory conditions
- Vitamin A helps rejuvenate the skin
You can buy this ingredient here on amazon.
Lavender essential oil
I’ve added lavender essential oil for its healing properties and also because it helps to preserve the cream.
Ingredients
- 7 teaspoons organic jojoba oil
- 1 teaspoons orange blossom hydrosol
- 1 teaspoon white beeswax pellets
- ½ teaspoon dried freezed royal gelly powder
- 5 drops bee propolis extract (liquid)
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
Instructions

- Remove from the heat and immediately mix with a manual egg beater spatula until the cream starts to form and until it is the consistency of a cream. Your spatula must leave marks in the cream.
- Add the dried freeze royal jelly powder, mix well.
- Add the bee propolis, mix well.
- Add the lavender essential oil and mix well.
- Pour in a glass jar container. It's best to keep this cream in the fridge to keep the properties of the dried freeze royal jelly intact.

I hope you have enjoyed my recipe, please share the love and rate ***** in the comments below!
Would you consider putting measurements in grams instead of teaspoons. I have discovered my teaspoons of beeswax differs each time which changes the finished product. It’s hard to “level” pellets of beeswax!!!
Excellent night cream! Thanks.
Hello. Can you replace orange blossom hydrosol with rose water? Do you freeze the rest of your royal bee jelly powder?
Author
yes you can replace one hydrosol by another. The royal bee jelly powder is already dried freezed so I don’t freeze it but it depends how long you want to keep it!
I have made this recipe many times for myself and to share. The only thing I have added is powdered bee pollen. The texture of this moisturizer is heavenly and the fragrance is delightful. I highly recommend trying this recipe- I found all of the ingredients very easily and will keep making this recipe often. Thank you for sharing it!

Thank you for the great feedback Cara! Much appreciated 🙂
I am looking for the bee propolis; unfortunately the one you list on Amazon is no longer available, there are several others but some have ingredients that are not what I would use, can you suggest another option? Thanks
Author
thanks for letting me know, here is a great bee propolis extract you can use: https://amzn.to/2RPnmdv
I am trying to make this and it isn’t making a cream mixture, I am at step 2 where it says to whip with a hand mixer. But it isn’t turning to cream. Do I need to let it cool a bit first?
How long are these face creams safe to use before micro organisms bacteria and fungus infect the product? 1-3 days?

yes, it should cool down slightly and you should be able to create an emulsion within 2 to 5 minutes of whipping.
From what I understand ant time you add any type of water you need to add a preservative, which type of preservative should you use?
Author

Can I replace Royal Jelly Powder with fresh royal jelly?
They do not send royal jelly powder to Slovenia. I can buy fresh royal jelly in Slovenia.
Thank you
Author
I have not tried but yes you could. Make sure you keep the cream in the fridge!
hi
I made a cream by the recipe. I got a royal jelliy from Germany. The cream is great. I use cream since 1.5.2019. For night use it is not sufficiently moisturizing for my skin. Can I use your serum before using cream for night care?
Hello, I’m currently in the middle of purchasing these ingredients. Is it possible to make this cream without using the dried freezed royal jelly powder?
Author
yes, but dried freeze royal jelly powder is the one ingredient that really helps with reducing fine lines and even skin tone.
LOVE your face cream. I apply it a few hours before I go to bed. It goes on greasy but absorbs really fast. Good job, thanks.
PS: I did add a preservative and I keep it in the fridge.
Author
awesome Paula! thanks for your kind comment and for taking the time to rate the recipe 🙂
I love how my skin feels, thank you. At first I was shocked because it “went on” greasy but it absorbed really fast. I use it as my night cream. I did add a small amount of liquid Germall preservative to it. Because I had it, I used a propolis tincture, a thick liquid and that worked fine. Next time I will try the powder.
Author
Thanks Paula 🙂
Just to clarify, I used liquid propolis and dried freezed dried royal jelly.
Hi Eve,
Since the recipe calls for 1tsp of water, wouldn’t it require a preservative ? Could this recipe be made without using any water?
Author
Hi Lynn, yes you can make this recipe without hydrosol. The essential oil helps preserving it, you can add a drop of rosemary extract or grapefruit seed extract. read more here https://www.organic-beauty-recipes.com/top-3-natural-preservatives-diy-beauty/
Hı Eve. I am from Turkey. and ı tried to make your lipstick recipe and this is great. Thank you your valuable recipes sharing with us:). I ask a question about face moistruzer royal jelly recipe. Can ı use orange peel hydrosol instead of orange blossom? Thank you so much and have a good day.
Author
you could, but they have slightly different properties since Orange peel comes from the skin of the orange and the blossom from the flower.
I prefer the Orange blossom hydrosol personally, much better for mature skin!
Thanks for the recipe – I’m excited to try it! But does the beeswax need to be white or is it OK to use yellow wax instead? Also, FYI the orange blossom hydrosol you’re linking to is currently unavailable on Amazon and they aren’t sure when it will be. Is another one appropirate to use? I have two: lavender and jasmine rose
Author
you can use yellow beeswax!
Lavender and jasmine rose hydrosol works too.
Hi!
I have 2 questions regarding this eye cream.
1. Can I make the recipe without the hydrosol and beeswax, and then replace the beeswax with shea butter or olive butter instead?
2. How long does this cream last before it goes “bad”?
Author
1. that would change the entire recipe so you would have to try.
2.1 month.
Thank u so much for the recepy…i c that it contains hydrosol..which is water..if i apply a preservative zo i dont have to put it in the fridge..and guee stuff dont have to grow init…
Author
you can use a natural preservatives, you can read more here:
https://www.organic-beauty-recipes.com/top-3-natural-preservatives-diy-beauty/
BUT because royal gelly is a very fragile ingredients, its still best to keep in the fridge.
HI,,can you use a whisk for other recipes requiring to be beaten with an electic beater?
Author
you could but it requires more arm power!
Making face moisturizer with royal jelly powder. You mention 25% alcohol free royal jelly powder. I also see royal jelly powder 75% which contains alcohol. As the 75% is stronger, can it be substituted, or would the stronger strength and alcohol not be as beneficial to my skin? Thanks for your time, and thanks for your blogs!
Author
I am not sure I understand your question. There is no alcohol in the dried freeze royal jelly powder. Its 100% pure royal jelly.
The liquid bee propolis is unrefined and contains 25% alcohol to preserve its quality longer.
I am using only 5 drops of the bee propolis.
