If you are looking for a simple and natural way of taking care of your face while preventing the appearance of fine lines, you should make this easy DIY face serum recipe. It’s as easy as blending organic rosehip oil and essential oils together!
There is no need to heat up anything, nor even create an emulsion. Just pour the rosehip oil and essential oils, shake it and use it!
Before we start, let’s get one thing out of the way – there is no such thing as anti-aging. I mean, how did this word even come up? We all know that aging is a natural process and that there is no stopping it.
However, you can slow down the aging process, or make sure that your age in a healthy and beautiful manner. Fortunately, that’s what I’m here to tell you about – how to make your own DIY face serum! It’ll cost you way less than a branded serum, it’s super easy to make, and it’ll be 100% organic. Not to forget, it’ll smell absolutely heavenly. Sounds perfect, right?
There’s a ton of essential oils out there that all claim to work wonders on wrinkles, age spots, and fine lines, but I’ve compiled a list of the best essential oils that will actually do the job. Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself and see the difference!
Coconut oil isn’t something that I would recommend adding in your face serum. All types of oils have a comedogenic rating, which ranks oils and butters based on their likelihood to clog pores. Preferably, you should choose oils that have a comedogenic rating between 0-2. Coconut oil has a rating of 4, which makes it highly comedogenic and therefore, highly likely to clog pores and cause acne.
This is probably the best anti-wrinkle oil out there. Rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin A, which is known to reduce age spots and wrinkles. Its molecules are small enough to penetrate deep into the skin and work their magic in improving collagen levels and nourishing the skin.
Yes, Frankincense can be mixed with Rosehip oil. In fact, both of them together make a beautiful, soothing facial blend perfect for your skin!
Store-bought face serums can be quite expensive and the problem is that can never be quite sure of the quality of their ingredients.
These are the very reasons why I have decided to make a DIY face serum recipe with essential oils that is anti-wrinkles. I believe that you can save money and have a higher quality product when you are making a homemade face serum.
Even my boyfriend who is very picky loves using this organic face oil! This works on sensitive skin as well. If your skin is extremely sensitive, I would only use a few drops of lavender oil with the rosehip oil and skip all the other essential oils at first.
Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of rosehip fruit from Chile.
It has a smooth and thin texture and is not greasy. The best quality rosehip oil has an orange and almost red color. It will not color your skin but can help give you a healthy tanned glow naturally.
Rosehip oil is filled with vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids that hydrate the skin, repair damage from free radicals, reduce skin discoloration.
Keep in mind that not all rosehip oils are created equal. To ensure that you are using the highest quality, you should look for two things in the label—cold-pressed and certified organic.
Cold-pressed is the best extraction method because it ensures the maximum vitamin content and potency of the oil.
A certified organic rosehip oil has not been grown with pesticides or insecticides and contains no chemicals, preservatives, and parabens that may harm the skin.
Used on its own, rosehip oil helps to fight Eczema, Rosacea, Dermatitis, Psoriasis. It is great to reduce skin redness and uneven skin tone as well.
The price of a 30 ml bottle ranges from $15 to $45 and you can buy online here.
Considered to be one of the best essential oils for aging, rose geranium essential oil is derived from stalks and leaves of a shrub called Pelargonium and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It also helps reduce wrinkles, fight skin infection, promote skin healing, and boost the regeneration of skin cells. Plus it scent is delightful, it has a sweet peppery and musky rose scent.
Frankincense Oil is extracted from the gum or resin from Frankincense or Olibanum trees. I have included this anti-aging face oil in my recipe because it reduces skin discoloration, increases blood flow making the skin more smooth.
Also known as Everlasting and Immortelle essential oil found in most skin care products because of its ability to promote healing of wounds, relieve sunburn, prevent skin cancer, treat acne, fight off infection and keep fungi at bay.
Sandalwood essential oil takes good care of your skin by soothing sunburns, shrinking skin pores, promoting an even skin texture, fighting off bacteria and fungi that cause acne.
Carrot seed oil is high in antioxidants, it’s a natural essential oil for any anti-aging skin face serum and perfect for mature skin. The oil also contains vitamin E and vitamin C, which works together to regenerate your skin.
Now, I know what you are thinking! No, you don’t need to use all those essential oils to have a good face serum, you can definitely skip 1 or two and still have a great face oil recipe.
There’s a lot of controversy in the skincare industry when it comes to whether oils are good for your skin or not. It’s very important to understand your skin type, and then choosing an oil that will complement it, rather than work against it. Here are a few tried and tested essential oils that are great to tackle your wrinkle issues.
Do you think that putting oil on your face will make it more oily and even clog your pores?
That’s a common urban legend and one of the many marketing tactics the giants of commercial beauty love to spread around. “Oil will clog your pores and make your skin break out”.
The truth is not all oils are suitable to use on your face but rosehip oil is one of them.
Rosehip oil is a dry oil as it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any oily residue on your face. Therefore, it does not clog pores.
If your face is oily, it is because there is an unbalance of sebum. You are either cleaning your face too hard, scrubbing it too often, or using chemicals that destroy the natural sebum barrier and cause imbalance and skin breakout.
The one thing you can do to save your skin from breaking out it to switch to an all-natural and simple routine.
Clean your skin by applying a natural organic rose hydrosol with a cotton pad and then massage rosehip oil on your face.
That’s it. This is what saved me from endless skin breakout and after sticking to this simple routine, I was able to keep my acne under control.
Also, please keep in mind, acne is a symptom of an internal problem and usually a result of a “poor” diet.

Hi Eve, thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and recipes (this is a fantastic serum!). I really appreciate the care you put into your blog! I do have one question that may seem obvious, but I would really appreciate some clarification.
How do you calculate the number of drops of diluted essential oils when making recipes? For example, I have diluted Helichrysum. If it is a 10% blend, would you put 10 times the number of drops in your recipe (i.e. 20 drops instead of 2?) This makes sense mathematically, but are there other factors I’m unaware of?
I don’t want to overdo it! Especially because I am also planning to make a 0.5% eye serum, which requires only 1 drop of pure EO per 10ml roller. So if my recipe calls for 1 drop of pure Rose Otto, would you put 10 drops of 10% Rose Otto instead?
Thank you once again for sharing your inspiration and expertise!
All the best!
Thank you so much for this serum recipe. This knowledge of being able to create your own superior beauty products without having to rely on mass produced, chemically laden commercial concoctions is so appreciated. Truly, thank you so much. I bought your ebook last year and have made this particular recipe again and again and AGAIN (that and your AMAZING moisturizer and peppermint lip balm). I love it. My skin loves it. Thank you for teaching me how to create and nourish my skin with such beautiful ingredients. Much love from Australia! xo Winter
Hi Eve,
Just so you know, the "Serving" slider is not working...probably because you made most ingredients listed a hyperlink. I noticed that the two essential oils that you did NOT make a hyperlink for do increase/decrease with the slider but none of the other ingredients do. Too bad, because I wanted to make a bigger batch.

Hi Eve,
Thank you for sharing your recipe for this anti-aging face serum! I've been using it for a while now and on my 3rd batch. The only ingredient I don't have is the Sandalwood, but it's lovely just the same. I will be ordering a copy of your book!!
All the best,
Deborah
so nice of you to say Deborah, thank you very much for the feedback :-)
Hi Eve,
I was so excited when I found your blog (albeit much later than others I see!) I’m just beginning to experiment with making DIY beauty products for myself. My question for you is how would you compare the benefits of Rosehip oil to Argan Oil for the face? And also vitamin E oil? I ask because those are the oils I currently have at home to work with and am wondering if they have any equal benefits combined. I currently struggle with very dry skin, increased signs of aging and wrinkles, and malasma spots.
Also do you know how I might be able to combine my homemade rice water to this serum?
Thanks so much for your time:)
Miriam
Hi Eve,
Please I don't understand the measurement, when you say 12 drops and 6 drops.is it like 12 tablespoons or teaspoon
Often, essential oils come with a reducer in the top of the bottle which allows you to add the essential oils to your creations a drop at a time so she actually means 12 drops or 6 drops. Hope that helps.
I have dried rose hips. Can I make my own oil? If so ratio please. I enjoy your website.
Simple but effective. Eve is spot-on with her information
