Are you Vegan or concerned to use beeswax because of the impact on the environment? Here is my DIY lip balm recipe with Candelilla Wax which will keep your lips soft and plump while having less impact on our friends the bees!
Vegan lip balms can be hard to find or expensive, which is why making your own lip balm may be the best thing to do. This DIY lip balm recipe is without beeswax, 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
A vegan lip balm has a much less environmental impact as opposed to one that is made from animal products, including beeswax. In 2019, about 40% of honey bee colonies in the US perished because of intense farming and urbanization. Of course, the use of pesticides and fertilizers is also to blame, and so is climate change.
The research showed that losing bees and insects will trigger a collapse of the entire earth ecosystem, read more on the first global review of its kind, It looked at 73 historical reports on insect declines around the world and found the total mass of all insects on the planets is decreasing by 2.5% per year. If this trend continues, we may not have any insects at all by 2119. This is really terrifying!
No matter what product you use, if it is vegan, you are contributing to a sustainable future where there will be less climate change and water depletion, adequate land use, and marine and freshwater eutrophication. A recent study published in The Lancet also added that all the above-mentioned categories were 84% less affected when plant-based products were used.
Moreover, a vegan diet lowers about 42-84% of the environmental burden. Food for thoughts!
While most people use beeswax in their DIY lip balms, I will provide you with vegan options like candelilla wax and the carnauba wax lip balm recipe.
If you want to substitute beeswax for candelilla wax or carnauba wax, use only half of the amount of the recipe that uses beeswax.
For soy wax, you can use the same amount of beeswax in the recipe, though soy wax can be slightly softer, so you can increase the amount of the soy wax slightly.
If your lip balm is making your lips dry, you are probably buying a cheap knockoff with petroleum The best way is to make your own vegan lip balm. A general carnauba wax lip balm recipe can be made as follows:
Vegan lip balm is one that does not use animal-based ingredients. All the ingredients are sourced from plants or vegetation and are naturally occurring. Vegan-friendly lip balms are often made popular as cruelty-free lip balms. Most often, they are free from questionable ingredients like chemical sunscreens, petroleum jelly, parabens, etc… but don’t forget to read the labels as they can be deceiving.
If you are looking for vegan-friendly lip balms, you need to use soy wax instead of beeswax. Soy wax also has a high melting point, making soy wax lip balms high-quality products.
Cocoa butter is very good for lips since it is a natural moisturizer with a mild and beautiful chocolate scent. It helps soothe and cleanse, while also improving the appearance of your lips.
No! Vaseline is not good for your lips as it is made of petroleum. Instead of nourishing the skin, it seals in the moisture, preventing it from escaping so your lips may become dry over time.
The best platform to buy lip balm tins is Amazon. You can buy 31 pieces, 15 ml Silver tins for as low as $13.99 here.
So start whipping up your own vegan DIY lip balm and make the world a better place!
