Nothing feels better than a nice foot scrub. And who doesn’t love having soft, pampered feet? This coconut homemade foot scrub offers a lovely way to practice some self-care and it smells amazing! Keeping your feet hydrated and clean is an important part of health and energy balance. Take the time to take care of your feet, they will thank you for it!
This coconut foot scrub recipe includes shredded coconut and coarse sea salt that will help exfoliate and are natural antiseptics. Coconut milk is hydrating and well who does not love the smell of coconut!?
Shredded organic coconut is made from the meat of coconuts. Like coconut oil, shredded coconut is antifungal and antibacterial. Its high fiber content allows it to help scrub and exfoliate your feet, but without being too rough. It also lends a lovely tropical smell! Shredded coconut is also high in zinc, which is good for the skin.
Coarse sea salt* is mineral crystals naturally made from the sea. The naturally rough texture helps to slough away dead skin cells while the high mineral content boosts skin health.
Organic avocado oil is made from the avocado kernel. It’s naturally rich in fatty acids, Vitamin E and lecithin, which all help to nourish and moisturize the skin. This is a smooth liquid oil with a natural amount of richness. You may also use your favorite carrier oil of choice.
Organic coconut milk is also made from the meat of coconuts, and it smells amazing, It is also hydrating and with a nice liquid texture that allows this scrub to be worked around your entire foot. Its high in copper, which is a natural anti-aging mineral for the skin, as well as vitamin C, which helps to boost skin tone and elasticity. Make sure you are buying 100% pure coconut milk – it may be best found in the canned section of your grocery store!
Lemongrass essential oil is an oil made from the lemongrass herb. This gives a lovely, refreshing and slightly exotic scent that mixes well with coconut. It’s a naturally effective skin cleanser and has antibacterial properties. It may even help to prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast – perfect for use on your footsies! The scent also reminds me of the wonderful and relaxing spa in Thailand, its a voyage by itself!
*If you have cuts or eczema, use brown sugar instead of the salt. Sea salt can sting if you have sensitive skin.
Making a homemade foot scrub gives you the opportunity to control the quality of ingredients, and to prevent exposure to any unwanted chemicals. Even the natural foot scrubs on the market may have some level of synthetic ingredients that act as preservatives to account for the time that the product spends sitting on the shelf in stores. Many also contain synthetic fragrances or added colorants for marketing purposes.
As an added benefit, you can customize your homemade foot scrub to the needs of your skin. You can even play with different fragrance options by using different essential oils.
Do this every two days or at least once a week and you will have smooth baby feet!
