I created this homemade face moisturizer recipe with liquid soy lecithin because I was looking for a non-greasy alternative to a DIY face moisturizer without beeswax. While Beeswax is a great natural barrier for the skin, it can make the face cream heavier and leave a shiny film on the skin. This moisturizer has a light and liquid consistency and can be put into pumpable bottles. It absorbs in the skin very fast thanks to the jojoba oil and leaves it smooth and hydrated.
Usually, I use my homemade face serum which only contains oil on my skin as it is very sensitive and acne-prone. I wanted to create a recipe that would blend a carrier oil and a hydrosol without beeswax and that feels light on the skin. Adding the hydrosol helps to bring moisture on the skin surface and to increase the hydration if you have dry skin. This homemade face lotion is also good for normal to greasy skin. Jojoba oil works wonder for all types of skins!
If you’re a fan of an all-organic skincare routine, you’ll be glad to create this homemade face moisturizer. It is easy to make and very economical!
DIY Face Moisturizer Main Ingredients
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil is an oil that comes from the seeds of Jojoba plant. It has been used as a natural treatment for wounds and sores in the past decades, and it is among the most used beauty ingredient. It is also the best organic replacement for human sebum, which protects the skin from external aggressors. The jojoba oil is also filled with nutrients and vitamins that are incredible for the skin, including copper, zinc, and vitamins B & E. It can retain the skin moisture, reduce wrinkles, and serve as a natural sunscreen as well. I love that it is light and act as our own skin sebum.
Soy Lecithin as an emulsifier
Soy Lecithin is a food additive that’s extracted from its main source, soy. It can serve a lot of things, depending on where it is used, including acting as a lubricant, a flavor protector, an antioxidant, or as an emulsifier mostly in food. It effectively stabilizes a lot of mixtures as an emulsifier, so it is often a go-to ingredient in food and cosmetic manufacturing. You will only use a small amount in this homemade face moisturizer.
Orange blossom hydrosol
The orange blossom hydrosol is the result of extracting essence out of orange blossoms. It’s a commonly used ingredient for perfumes, toners, and aftershave even from the olden days. It slows down the aging of the skin and is safe for sensitive and delicate skin types, perfect to add in a DIY face moisturizer.
Ingredients
- 4 tsp orange blossom hydrosol
- 8 tsp organic jojoba oil
- 1/2 tsp Liquid soy Lecithin
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- 5 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
- 5 drops Frankincense essential oil
Instructions
- Mix the jojoba oil, and lecithin in a glass recipient until they are well combined.
- Add the orange blossom hydrosol. Use a hand immersion blender to mix the ingredients for 2-3 minutes until it turns white like a lotion on fast speed.
- Add the essential oils and mix well. This is optional but does help with preservation and essential oils have great skin benefits.
- Shake the bottle, and apply on your face in the morning after having cleaned it with a cotton pad soaked with orange blossom or aloe vera.
- Use this DIY face moisturizer within 1 month.
Where to get empty pumpable lotion bottles?
You can find an empty glass bottle with pumps on amazon.com. Love those dark amber bottles that are only 4oz and refillable. The dark amber color is great for keeping out light, therefore preserving the qualities of the contents of the lotion.
Another alternative is those clear plastic bottles with a pump that are BPA free.
Achieving a great-looking skin isn’t as pricey nor with a complicated list of ingredients like it is advertised all the time. It can be as simple as buying a few organic ingredients and following this DIY face moisturizer recipe, not only to avoid harsh chemicals in commercial moisturizers but also save money while making an effective and safe homemade face moisturizer.

I just made this recipe using an herbal infused oil I already make for the face, and helichrysum hydrosol as my oil abd hydrosol substitutes along with the soy lecithin and essential oils. Love it! Same benefits of using a face oil but i love the creamy texture instead of a straight oil texture. Use this as your final moisturizing step in your skincare regimen. No other face oil needed after. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Can I still use my face serum after this lotion?
Author
You could but its not really needed here!
How do I get the lotion into the bottle?
Author
you pour it in the container!
Do I need to blend it more? It seemed to thick to pour.
I had read that a basic lotion is 60% water, 30% oil and 10% emulsifier. Your face cream has the opposite water to oil ratio . Can you comment on this difference? Thanks a lot.
Author
The ratio changes the recipe, if you use 60% water, the lotion is going to be very liquid and will most likely not hold the emulsion unless you add a synthetic emulsifier.
Hi Eve
I am in the snail slime market. Can you help me create my own body lotion using my own snail slime. I would like to use my product together with Shea butter.
I heard Soy Lecithin is harmful to our bodies!!! how much bees wax would you substitute it with?
You are wearing the lotion not eating it…it’s totally safe for your skin.
Can you substitute rose water for orange blossom hydrosol?
Author
Definitely!
