 Melt and Pour Soap Recipe

How to make lavender soap is easier that you would think! It’s also a great homemade gift for the holidays. The trick for this lavender melt and pour soap recipe is to get alcanet root powder which will give a beautiful lavender purple-blue color to your soap. Don’t bother trying to use dried lavender flowers directly inside your soap because 1: they will turn brown 2: they will not give any lavender color to your soap. Believe me, I tried!

Natural Ingredients for soap coloring

Alkanet is an herb in the borage family and native from the Mediterranean region. It is known to be used as a natural dyeing agent for wool, wood, stone, lip balm, lipstick, ointments, salve, soap, lotion…

Just keep in mind, Alkanet root will yield shades of pink, blue, and purple, depending upon the amount used, types of oil used, and the alkalinity of the soap. For the organic melt and pour soap base I’ve used, it turned out perfectly: Purple blue lavender ish (excuse my language!)

You can use dried lavender flower buds on top of the soap as decoration.

Which melt and pour soap base to buy?

For this melt and pour soap recipe, you need to buy an organic goat milk soap melt and pour base on amazon for example. Just make sure to read the ingredients so they are indeed natural and organic.

Have fun with this, you can also add some natural loofah, orange peel, sugar, Himalayan salts or grounded coffee to exfoliate….The possibilities are endless!

How To Make Lavender Soap

The trick for this lavender melt and pour soap recipe is to get alkanet root powder which will give a beautiful lavender purple-blue color to your soap.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Cut the melt and pour soap base into small cubes so they melt faster
  • Add them to your double boiler (basically an aluminum bowl in a pan half filled with warm water) on low to medium heat
  • Your water should be simmering but not boiling.
  • Continue steering until the soap base is melted
  • Once melted, add the jojoba or almond oil, cocoa butter, mix well. You could also substitute with any carrier oil or butter of your choice.
  • Once everything is melted, take the bowl off the heat, wait a few minutes until is slightly cools off then add essential oils if desired, mix well. If you add the essential oils when the base is too warm, they will evaporate and you can say goodbye to the amazing scents….
  • Pour in the silicone mold but keep 1/4 of a cup so you can add the alcanet root separately.
  • In the remainder ¼ of base, add the alkanet root and mix well.
  • Add the alkanet melt and pour to your silicon mold and create swirls with a wooden stick going from one side to another.
  • Alternatively you can also add the alkanet root to the entire melt and pour base and have purple soaps, that’s up to you!
  • Spray pure alcohol on top of the soap to get rid of the bubbles if any
  • Add the dried lavender flowers on top of the soap while it is still liquid
