It took me a lot of trial and error until I managed to tame my acne and have clear skin on my face. I was able to develop the best natural skin care routine that completely changed my skin and cured my acne.
This routine is also great if you have acne prone or oily or dry skin on your face. What I learned is that it is best not to try too many things to face as it will disrupt the natural sebum balance and just make things worst. A simple, organic based routine is your best bet to naturally treat and calm acne-prone skin.
The underlying causes of acne are excessive sebum or lack of sebum, bacteria, hormones, stress and of course diet.
The importance of diet
Try to avoid refined sugar, gluten, and dairy when it’s not organic.
I know how hard this can be but if you can stick to it for 2 weeks, you will see the improvements on your skin and this will encourage you to keep it up!
I suggest a homemade diet with lots of veggies, fruits, seeds, and whole grains. Avoid anything that is packaged as you have no controlled over the ingredients.
Also, I found that adding 2 tablespoons of black chia seeds in my daily diet also helped a lot! Chia seed contains omega 3, zinc which helps control the balance of sebum on the skin.
My natural skin care routine is only 3 ingredients
Rosewater or rose hydrosol is a hydrating fluid distilled from rose petals. Rosewater has been used for decades due to its skin benefits and pleasing smell. A well-distilled rosewater should be distilled only once so that it retains enough of the plant oil for a fresh, rosy scent. Some of the best rosewater in the world has historically come from Bulgaria. Benefits include reduction of inflammation, a gentle antiseptic effect to clean the skin of bacteria, and an infusion of antioxidant vitamins and that produce clearer, brighter skin.
When choosing a rosewater or rose hydrosol, check the ingredients to make sure that it is made only from distilled rose petals. Essential oils and synthetic ingredients should not be added.
Organic jojoba oil is oil pressed from the seed of the jojoba plant, which is a shrub found in Mexico and the southwest of the United States. It’s high in antioxidants A and E, which help to nourish and moisturize the skin. It is also a lightweight oil that is easily absorbed. Like rosewater, jojoba oil has natural antibacterial properties, making it a great choice for acne prone skin!
Again, when purchasing a jojoba oil, make sure to check the ingredients on the label. There should only be one! You want to purchase 100% pure jojoba oil that is certified organic by a credible third party like USDA or Eco Cert like this one here. You should also look for unrefined or cold-pressed oils that are in their purest form.
My DIY natural skin care routine
Morning routine
I rinse my face with cold water, dry it gently and then apply rosewater in a spray bottle.
Rosewater is suitable if you are acne prone skin or dry skin. Also very suitable to mature and sun damaged skin.
If you have normal skin, I recommend using lavender hydrosol.
if you have sensitive, irritated or mature skin with fine lines, you should use Immortelle Helichrysum (everlasting) flower water. Immortelle, also called Helichrysum has anti-inflammatory properties and will help repair skin.
if you have oily skin, use the orange blossom hydrosol instead which is slightly astringent and helps balance oily skin.
Then I apply just three drops of jojoba oil on my face and neck and massage it into my skin. A little goes a long way!
Jojoba oil is suitable for all type of skins, from normal to dry to oily as it restores the balance of the skin sebum.
if you have severe acne, please use my anti-acne face oil recipe below. This oil blend includes jojoba oil and also essential oils that are known to be healing, antibacterial and antimicrobial, detoxing and reduce the dark spot and scar from acne.
Anti Acne Oil Blend Recipe
Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons of organic jojoba oil
- 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 5 drops oflavender essential oil
- 2 drops of juniper berry essential oil
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in an amber glass container.
- Shake well before use.
- Apply 3-4 drops of the oil blended on your clean fingers and massage well.
- Use morning and evening daily on your face.
Evening routine
I remove any makeup with cotton pads, and I try to use organic cotton when possible to prevent adding any toxins to my skin.
I wet them with water and add a few drops of the jojoba oil to help dissolve the makeup, then massage gently and wipe all the makeup off.
Then I spray the rosewater on my face again and add 3 drops of jojoba oil and massage well on my face.
Rasshoul face clay mask recipe Weekly or bi-monthly
I do a face mask with Rhasshoul clay, also called Morrocan mud to help draw out any impurities. You don’t want to do this too often because it disrupts your skin’s sebum, which can lead to more acne.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of Rhassoul clay
- 3 tablespoons of aloe vera juice
Instructions
- Mix the clay and warm water in a ceramic or glass bowl until it forms a thick and smooth paste.
- Apply on your face and massage gently on your face.
- Let the mask sit for 10 minutes.
- Rinse well.
The best natural skin care routine for you will be simple and not strip your face of its natural oils.
Top 5 things to avoid if you have acne or dry skin
1/ Wearing foundation – this is simply a band-aid solution for a clear complexion. While it fakes the look of clear skin, it prevents your skin from breathing and can clog pores. Many foundations are also filled with chemicals that can disrupt your skin’s natural protective barrier and cause acne.
2/ Using soap on your skin – soap strips your skin of its natural oils. While this may seem like a good thing because oil has been demonized by the beauty industry, it ends up drying out your skin which not only makes it look older and less radiant, but it can lead to the overproduction of oil as your skin tries to compensate. This, in turn, can lead to acne.
3/ Touching your skin too often – you may be tempted to check your skin for bumps, but this deposits oil and bacteria from your hands onto your skin and can cause clogged pores and skin issues like whiteheads and blackheads. Trying to pop blemishes also further deposits bacteria into your skin.
4/Using anti-acne products with chemicals – these products work similarly to soap in that they strip your skin of its natural oils. Products with harsh chemicals can also disrupt your skin’s pH and break down its protective barrier. While they may clear up acne temporarily, they almost always lead to more acne later on and can contribute to older-looking skin.
5/ Having a processed food diet – beauty is inside out and I cannot stress enough the old adage: you are what you eat!
A natural skin care routine is your best option for naturally-nourished, vital looking and clear skin. Remember to keep it simple and to give your skin a little time to regain its health. In the end, you will save money on products and have beautiful, youthful, clear skin!

Regarding foundation: I have very very red skin and I really don’t want to leave the house without any coverage. Can you suggest some as naturalas possible foundation? Or mineral powder?
Thank you!
