    Now, the flavour of my hot chocolates finally matches the delicious hot chocolates my mother made for me in Germany over 70 years ago - before food products were overly processed and filled with chemicals to stabilize and preserve them.

    To take advantage of the health benefits of 'dark chocolate' I also use this organic cacao powder to make delicious baked goods such as brownies -substituting unsweetened applesauce for the sugar and oil. There are tonnes of recipes for making healthy chocolate treats online.

    Don't pay any attention to reviewers complaining that this product does not mix easily and results in lumps. A basic culinary skill when mixing powders with liquids dictates that the powder be put in the container first and then mixed smoothy with only a small amount of the liquid. (I like to to use a fork or a small whisk for this step. ) Once the cacao powder and the liquid are mixed completely, add the rest of the liquid while stirring . Et voilá: lump free solutions. BTW, this method should be used whenever a powdered product is to be mixed with a liquid.

    The flavour of well known cocoa powders sitting on shelves in grocery stores cannot compete with this stuff!

    I purchased this mainly as this brand has been listed as one of the ones with lower amounts of heavy metals (lead and cadmium) in their cacao. I don't know if that is true, but Navitas at least acknowledges (on their website) the fact that the heavy metals are present and that they monitor it.

    This Cacao is much more costly than something you get typically at a supermarket, and taste-wise, I don't notice any difference between this brand and the next. This purchase was for ease of mind, and until more companies do the research or put some effort into removing these heavy metals, I guess I will be paying the extra.

    I grew up on and raised my own children using Hersheys powdered cocoa, as did my mother and grandmothers. However, after recently reading about the toxins found in multiple brands of chocolate (including Hersheys!), and over-20 brands of cinnamon, I searched for brands that will not put toxins into my grandchildren.     Navitas Organics Cacao Powder was one of the few, if not the only, brand tested that does not contain a toxin. It is carried in the granola-style grocery stores. I ordered it from Whole Foods via Amazon. It is high-quality. I have baked with it and made pudding with it and it is delicious.

    According to a 2023 Consumer Reports testing program ("A Third of Chocolate Products Are High in Heavy Metals, CR's Tests Find" - October 25, 2023), Navitas cacao powder had the lowest levels of lead and cadmium among the cacao powders they tested. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a couple other brands of cacao powder that taste better. I've used cacao powder daily for 20+ years in my coffee and have tried about a dozen different brands. After reading the CR article, I will be sticking with Navitas. [Several years ago Healthworks sold the best-tasting cacao powder; nothing else since has come close. Used it for a couple years. Then one day they changed the packaging and I also noticed the powder didn't taste as good. And the Healthworks cacao powder in the new package was also lighter in color and more brown, whereas the original Healthworks was darker and redder. I miss the old Healthworks taste; no bitter aftertaste that ALL other cacao powders have to some degree. But it also probably had higher levels of lead & cadmium compared to Navitas. ]
