Thick & Vegan SuperPower Hot Chocolate (A L’italienne)

The setting: A rainy day in Venice, Italy…a cozy coffee shop. The taste of thick, decadent and creamy hot chocolate….My eyes growing big…. “mmmmm”…That’s the memory I have from tasting an incredible thick and delicious hot chocolate in Venice. I swear it was like drinking a luxurious Nutella pudding, so amazing I still remember it from 15 years ago!

Anyhow, I wanted to recreate a healthy and vegan version of this decadent and thick Italian hot chocolate.

How to make it thick without cream, milk or cornstarch? How to make it healthy?

This is when I thought about poppy seeds! See poppy seeds are an addiction of mine, especially in lemon cakes…(but that’s another story!). It also happens they are a natural thickener.

You may ask…Why is this vegan hot chocolate healthy?

  • Raw cocoa powder is full of antioxidants, Magnesium, and other essential minerals including calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese. It also includes vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, E.
  • Homemade Almond milk is low in fat, but high in proteins and fiber. It contains vitamins like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.
  • Poppy seeds is considered a superfood and contains high levels of essential mineralscalcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium.

Take care of not drinking this after 5 pm or you may end up awake all night, like I did!

This is a great vegan hot chocolate recipe if you want an afternoon boost, more energy and get into a happy mood, even if it’s -15 outside!

I thought this recipe was too good to keep for myself so here it is…Please let me know how you like this Vegan SuperPower Hot Chocolate in the comments below!
